I am reading this book, Educational Interpreting: How It Can Succeed (Amazon affiliate link), edited by Elizabeth A. Winston. I began reading it yesterday. It is fascinating and informative. It discusses educational interpreters, the pros and cons, and how we can possibly resolve some of the issues surrounding it. The book raises a lot of good questions, all worth investigating. I will be discussing some of the questions and issues brought up in this book, in separate blog postings.
The most challenging part of my job as an itinerant teacher of deaf and hard of hearing students is working with educational interpreters. They are often put in tough situations and sometimes I am not sure how to resolve some of the issues we come across. I can relate to many of the problems the book lays out that occurs in educational interpreting. I am hoping to gain more insight and to come up with ways I can help with some of the tricky situations we are currently facing.
Thus far, I would recommend this book to educational interpreters and to those who are or will be working with educational interpreters. I think parents of children who have educational interpreters would benefit as well.
