Cell Phone Use in 1928? More Likely a Hearing Aid

In recent news: a woman appears to be talking on a cell phone in a clip from a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film The Circus.

Here is the clip:

There are many theories, one of them being that she was probably a time traveler. But, I thought the most interesting one was that it could have been a hearing aid. They were manufactured during that time and widely distributed, so why not?

I love weird creepy tales especially around Halloween, and especially if they involve hearing aids!

  2. Only problem, there is no way to make cellphone connect to tower that required a computer to make communicate. Unless, that person is alien and have spaceship up there to use as signaler. creepy!

  3. ok first point if she came from a place advanced enough to travel in time to the past its not going to be a cell phone like ours. most likely it would also be more advanced maybe using quantum particles that don't obey the laws of time and space. second she is talking to someone not on the screen you don't need a hearing aid to talk.

  4. Sam the Deaf and everyone,

"Tesla demonstrated wireless energy transfer to power electronic devices as early as 1893, and aspired to intercontinental wireless transmission of industrial power in his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project." Wikipedia (Nikola Tesla)

This was before the 1928 film, so go figure. Anything is possible that the Govt. may have tried to cover up.

Heath, We need to talk-test to see if our hearing aids are working. She could be trying to see if her hearing aid is working by babbling to herself.

  5. Or maybe she's just crazy!
That's what we used to think about people who talked to themselves before cell phones were in vogue.
