  1. (e,

I have never been diagnosed as hard of hearing or deaf. I've never even been examined. But for as long as I can remember, sounds have been particularly difficult with me. I love music and language but I have a hard time understanding what people are saying. I am lost without subtitles when watching television or movies and often find myself saying "uh huh", "what?", and "yeah...okay" when people speak to me. I am a big fan of the "nod and smile" technique. I know very little ASL (alphabet, some common words and phrases) and find myself drawn to it as a method of translation. Is there anything I can do to improve my hearing? I feel like more often than not, especially in extremely noisy situations, that I'm in my own little world and am outside of the present situation.

    Thanks,

    C

  2. Sounds like you are one of us. :) No, but seriously you need to see an audiologist to be properly tested and diagnosed.

  3. I will look into that. Thanks for the advice. Some days I hardly notice it and then other days it's really unbearable. Especially in places like the mall or Walmart where the noise level is almost unbearable and nauseating. I'm new to your blog but will keep reading your posts to learn more about my options!

  6. Actually, the stickers are from a drug store--the nail/manicure section. They are supposed to be used on your nails. :)

  7. I think they look cool! I put sticky rhinestones on mine of varying sizes and colours. People compliment how cute they look when I decorate them. =)
Did you get your audiologist to make you coloured earmoulds? One of my hearing aids has an earmould and it's clear, but I'd love a purple one!

  8. Yes, I told my audiologist what I wanted and sent my ear impression to some company who created the blue and white ear mold.

They will make them in any color. Even silver, gold, glitter, and rainbow.

  10. I have just got back from the hospital after choosing not to wear my hearing aids for 6 years! i was a rebel to my differences. but today i have got my hearing aids fixed and i am embracing the fact that now i can hear such simple things. such as the sound of the car engines and birds in the garden.

I cant wait until i can get my new moulds. i just wish that i asked for a colour one! cant wait to go to work and finally hear what the man who is as quiet as a mouse says. i will no longer feel excluded from group conversations.
